Please share fun and wholesome ideas for celebrating a child’s birthday in class 🙂
I’m 100% not a fan of children bringing cupcakes and similar treats to share! If you do the count – in a class of 30 children, they each might get about 25 unhealthy treats during birthday celebrations in a school year.
Some ideas I came across that I liked:
– the birthday boy/girl leads a game of choice
– the class works together to make a healthy treat
– parents come to share stories about the child for each year
Looking forward to getting more ideas 🙂

Hi!
This is definitely a challenge especially with so many birthdays to celebrate throughout the school year. You have some really great ideas for healthy alternatives!
Here are a few more:
- Have the birthday child choose a special craft/activity for the class to do (or have the parents lead the activity)
- Create a class garden (indoor or outdoor) and have each child plant seeds on their birthday and watch their plant grow throughout the year
- Have a dance party and let the birthday child choose the music (Kidz Bop is always a hit!)
- Have the parents bring in a timeline of pictures (birth, year 1, year 2, etc.) of their child to show the class
- Create a "Birthday Book" time and have the birthday child bring in their favorite book for the teacher to read or have the child's parent read it to the class
- Request non-food goodies for the birthday child to share with the class such as a bag of little toys or school-related items (pencils, erasers, etc.)
